Domestic and family violence

Disasters, and disruption can make home environments less safe and may increase the risk of domestic and family violence.

How the DRLS can help

If you have been affected by domestic or family violence, the Disaster Response Legal Service can support you by:

  • listening to your situation and providing confidential legal advice
  • helping you understand your options at your own pace
  • assisting with related housing, financial or legal issues, and
  • linking you with specialist services for ongoing support.

Insurers and banks can provide extra support if you are experiencing domestic and family violence after a disaster.

Insurance

Insurance companies are required to have their own internal guidelines to assist customers experiencing domestic and family violence.

Your bank is also required to have guidelines on how to assist customers who are experiencing domestic and family violence.
