Replacing Important Documents

If you have lost important identity documents in a disaster, you can have them replaced for free.

For information about replacing birth certificates, marriage certificates, change of name certificates and driver’s licences, you can contact your nearest Service NSW. Service NSW can also help you to replace certificates registered in other Australian states and territories or in New Zealand.

For information about replacing an Australian citizenship certificate that has been lost, destroyed or damaged in a disaster, you can contact the Department of Home Affairs or the Disaster Response Legal Service on 1800 801 529.

If you have home and contents insurance, you may have cover for replacing certain documents, such as the certificate of title to your property. You should check this with your insurer or contact the Disaster Response Legal Service on 1800 801 529 for help.
