Ma'ata Solofoni, senior solicitor in Disaster and Insurance presented at the Australia and New Zealand Disaster Emergency Management Conference (DEMC24) on the Gold Coast in July.
In her session “Disaster Preparedness and Recovery – What’s law got to do with it?”, Ma’ata spoke about the common legal problems we can help with following a disaster. She discussed the importance of preparedness, lessons and insights from previous disasters, and ways to strengthen community resilience and reduce vulnerability to future disasters.
During August, Ma’ata gave evidence at Parliament House before the Joint Select Committee on the NSW Reconstruction Authority. The event was a public hearing for the statutory review of the NSW Reconstruction Authority Act 2022.
The NSW Reconstruction Authority is a permanent, statewide agency dedicated to disaster preparedness, recovery and reconstruction.
