The NSW Attorney General, The Hon. Michael Daley, visited the Lismore Regional Office on 28 July to hear directly from staff about the lasting impact of the 2022 Northern Rivers floods and the critical legal support provided in the aftermath.

During his visit, the Attorney met with solicitors from the Disaster Response Legal Service (DRLS) and the Lismore Civil Law team. They shared their experiences supporting flood-affected communities and highlighted the importance of early legal help in preventing issues like homelessness and financial hardship.

Rachael Thomas, Solicitor in Charge of the Lismore office, spoke about the surge in demand for legal assistance following disasters and the vital role of a dedicated disaster legal service in meeting that need.

The Attorney was also taken on a walking tour near Wilsons River to see firsthand the extent of the flood damage, including the areas around the flood levee and under the bridge that were submerged.
